Additional HIV Testing Outreach Opportunity

On June 26th, the Temple University Comprehensive HIV Program is organizing an HIV Testing Day at the Student Faculty Center, 1st Floor, 3340 N. Broad Street. They need OFA volunteers to pass out fliers at 2 Subway stops to encourage folks to get tested. Join our OFA team leaders either at the Allegheny or the Erie subway stops on the Broad St line, from 8:30 to 9:30 AM. Please RSVP @ http://bit.ly/v1qQd

Day of Service: National HIV Testing Day

HIV/AIDS is still a serious health concern for every one of us: On this OFA National Day of Service join our team and participate in "National HIV Testing Day"! OFA volunteers will be asked, as a team, to circulate information about HIV/AIDS and testing in the neighborhood of several testing locations: - 18th St and Lehigh Avenue (10A-1P) - Philly AIDS Thrift at 5th/Bainbridge (2-5P) - Passyunk and Morris in South Philly (6-9P) - Washington West Project at 1201 Locust (9A-9P). To view locations on a map: http://bit.ly/efWGD Volunteers who wish to participate are strongly encouraged to attend a 1/2 hr info and training session on either Tuesday June 23d or Wednesday June 24th at the Mazzoni Center 1201 Chestnut St (3rd Floor) at 5:30PM.  The training will cover important HIV Outreach Protocol information and will give an orientation to the information packets we will help circulate.  We may also have an opportunity to help assemble some of these packets while we are there.  (If you are unable to attend a training, sign up anyway and arrive 1/2 hr earlier at the testing location of your choice to receive material and brief orientation.) Because HIV outreach crosses party lines, we have been asked to be non-partisan on the 27th. So please wear a bright T-shirt without political logos and bring a canvas bag (or similar) to carry your materials. This event is a collaboration with the Mazzoni Center - http://www.mazzonicenter.org For more information and to RSVP, please visit http://bit.ly/45ceNo (When you sign up for this event, please indicate in the message box the testing location(s) and the training day of your choice.)

Tell your senators: We need a public health care option.

Millions of Americans live in fear of getting sick because they can't afford the care they need - President Obama wants to change that by giving all Americans access to public health care. Under President Obama's plan, Americans could choose between the insurance plan they have already (if they have one) or a public plan that would provide quality, affordable care. Unsurprisingly, private insurers have spent millions of dollars trying to keep this plan from becoming reality. Instead, they're asking for "reform" that wouldn't change anything at all. I signed a petition asking my senators to side with President Obama and the American people - not the insurance industry. I hope you will, too. Please have a look and take action. http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/public_option/?r_by=4523-2020480-0oqpTTx&rc=confemail Thanks!

Organizing for Health Care

Dear Organizing for America - Center City East Volunteer, "If we don't get it done this year, we're not going to get it done." That's how President Obama -- briefing leading Organizing for America volunteers in our health care effort -- described our fight to pass real health care reform in 2009. This campaign could not be more important or more urgent. And this weekend, it's coming to Old City.  We have organized a house meeting at team member Dana's apartment.  This is your chance to join up with local supporters, get the facts, and help make a plan to build support in our neighborhood, and start putting that plan into action. Here's the details: Time: Sunday, June 7 from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM Host: Dana Binder Location:  Dana's Apartment / 100 Arch Street / Apt. 2B/3B  (Ring 2B, Enter on 3B)
